Dogons are people of Mali, in West Africa. Their population is
estimated at 300 000 peoples. They occupy the area which goes
from cliff of Bandiagara to the south-west of the loop of Niger.
Some Dogons are installed in the north of Burkina Faso. Dogons
are above all the farmers (primarily millet). They are famous
for their cosmogony and their sculptures.
The language
spoken by Dogons is the dogon which gathers several dialects.
There is also a secret language, the sigi so, language reserved
for the company of the masks. Dogons are dependent with l’ethnie
of Bozos by the relationship on joke. Dogons and Bozos make
fun reciprocally but parallélement owe assistance.
Dogons would
have come from Mandé, area located at the south-west
of Mali in XIVe century to avoid Islamization. They would have
settled in Kani Bonzon before dispersing in three parties which
are the Cliff of Bandiagara, the plate (area of Sangha) and
the plain. This cliff was then inhabited by Tellem.
As well
as possible to illustrate what represents its people and his
culture Dogon Déné A chooses a text of his/her
father the poet Malian Hamadoun Ibrahima Issébéré
